While they don’t look too different from other PDAs on the market, I think Palm’s latest offerings are just the sort of products that we want to see – an affordable, basic organiser, and a high speed Palm that has swapped bulky memory for Wi-Fi.
The Z22 is the least expensive Palm organiser you can buy. While it doesn’t have a high spec or masses of software, it is perfect for what it is – an advanced organiser. It has a colour screen so you can show off your photos in relatively good quality, but it doesn’t have an SD slot or Bluetooth, so you do have to drag everything across on USB.
But I reckon the Z22 is the ideal Christmas present for students and non-business users. Let’s face it, a 20 year old who just wants to organise their busy life, doesn’t want a high end, expensive device – and for them, the Z22 is the answer. Small and good looking it’ll fit in their pocket and make them look cool to their friends, while storing thousands of addresses, notes, lists, reminders and photos without weighing them down.
For someone who wants a little bit more oomph to their PDA, the new TX is the one for them. This is only the third device to come from Palm boasting both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. While it has a lean 128MB memory, this is expandable via the SD slot and even with so many features, the TX is still affordable compared to similar products.
So the verdict is…whether you’re buying for your technophobe aunt, or your workaholic cousin – there’s a Palm for you this Christmas.
