TiBo is a new multimedia GPS system. It lets you navigate, listen to MP3s and watch films (not while driving obviously), which I think is pretty cool. It is the only GPS system to have side indicators, although the jury’s out on just how useful they are, and it has a lot of other features. But what makes this different from every other GPS system on the market? Well…
Pretty much the inclusion of a good quality media player does it for me. The screen’s a high resolution and a good size so you don’t strain your eyes watching your favourite films (MPEG4 format). There’s also a picture (JPEG) viewer, and with the SD slot it’s easy enough to transfer your photos on and off the TiBo. The inbuilt speakers are also good quality so you can pump out your MP3s to your heart’s content.
While the look and feel of the hardware isn’t to my taste, (although I’m open to argument) the actual software is easy to navigate round. The TiBo button on the front is like a ‘back’ or ‘up’ button, allowing you to jump back to the previous menu in one touch.
Overall I like the TiBo. It’s neat and easy to use while you’re driving. The voice instructions are clear and the media player’s great for long trips. But the best bit…Picture the scene – my significant other has kindly volunteered to pick me up from the shops, however the music/shoe/clothing store has a sale on and I’ve got a little distracted. Luckily in preparation for such an anomaly I loaded his favourite film onto the TiBo, so he can happily watch and listen while I spend his well earned cash – everyone’s a winner! If you have any other suggestions on the best use of a multimedia GPS, please let me know.

I’ve got one and its top dollar. Why? My screaming kids in the back of the car were doing my head in last week. I threw in the Tibo which had a double bill of the Simpsons…..and oh joy beyond all other joy…..peace ensued. It got me where I was going and got me there sane. I love the Tibo!
I was considering getting one, what does the destinator software run like on it?
really well actually. The screen is really clear, the routing instructions are precise and its reliable. I’ve got numerous addresses saved in my favourites and when the motorway is jammed, its easy to get another route. Just hit “avoid this road” and of you go.
