A picture is worth a thousand PDA passwords

The visKey PDA software protects your PDA against unauthorised access with a picture. It’s so simply it’s brilliant. The program locks your PDA and displays a picture of your choice – either one supplied by the software or one of your own. So how does that protect your information? Well, the PDA will

stay locked until the correct visual Key has been put in. The visual key is between 1 and 8 spots on the image which must be tapped in the right order to unlock your PDA.

So why is this so much safer? Well apart from the fact that it is harder to guess than a password (your favourite football team, name of your cat etc.) or pin code (your birthday, your cat’s birthday…) A 4 digit pin offers around 10,000 possible combinations – but a visual key with four clicks offers more than 100,000,000 different combinations, so an 8 click combination offers more than…multiplied by…carry the 1…I’ve no idea but it’s a lot.

Also, if you lose your device people won’t be able to get into your files, but they will be able to see the owner information so it can be returned to you.

You can try visKey for 30 days from their website, and it is supported on Pocket PC and Palm devices – just check the version’s compatibility to make sure it will work on your PDA
