London to be the next Wi-Fi city
Posted on23. Feb, 2006 by Joanna.
The Cloud (major Wi-Fi network operator) is partnering with the City of London Corporation to install and manage a Wi-Fi infastructure over the capital’s financial district. Last month the Cloud announced a partnership with BT to produce Wi-Fi phone boxes, and this service is expected to be live within the next few months.
If all goes well the entire metropolis will be covered within the year, allowing access to the high speed internet connection throughout the city. The wireless service will be available through lamp posts, street signs and other existing fixtures. Any service provider will be able to use the service. With 8 other British cities following in London’s footsteps, Britain will be a haven for PDAs and wireless devices before you can say Wi-Fi.

But, I did take the TomTom GO 300 (with speed camera database) with me and everyone was glad that I did. We managed to navigate to around 10 house viewings in 2 days across six villages, and only got lost once when the GO navigated us down a street that had recently been pedestrianised. Apart from that small slip up, the maps where incredibly up to date, steering us through rows of identical houses in newly built developments without fail.

A week ago HP “accidently leaked” information on the 6900 series of iPAQs, but now they’ve issued a press release with the official details of the HP iPAQ 6900 Mobile Messenger, and a pretty image to tempt us.
