Garmin have launched a Mobile Phone GPS navigation system at CeBit last weekend – the Garmin Mobile 20. Designed for in-car use, the Mobile 20 offers vocal turn-by-turn directions through a Bluetooth cradle. It is made to work on Nokia, Windows Mobile and the Treo 650, so covers all the major smartphones.
The Windscreen suction mount is the GPS 20Sm docking station with a built in GPS receiver. The Mobile 20 will be the first to use Garmin Online Wireless Data Services according to Garmin’s website, which should work in a similar way to TomTom Plus, with free features and subscription based information services. The Mobile 20 also has SMS capabilites, allowing users to text their position to any other phone.
A run down of the other main features:
• Phone mount with Bluetooth wireless speaker and microphone — lets you speak “hands-free” so you can focus on driving
• Detailed, accurate mapping software — included on data card and provides detailed maps for your region
• Easy and convenient setup — just plug included data card. Software automatically installs itself.
• Garmin Online™ — provides free and subscription wireless data services to Garmin Mobile 20 customers with Internet access on their phones. Services include real-time traffic, petrol prices, safety cameras, weather information, and other location relevant content
• Integrated high-sensitivity GPS receiver
• Built-in suction cup and phone charger — make it a snap to install the GPS 20SM on any windshield and conveniently charge most smartphones (adapters included)
The package should start shipping in the second half of this year.
