Seriously guys, you’re letting the side down. Before GPS systems have been blamed for trying to drive people off a cliff – but luckily those few drivers had the wit to stop and have a think before driving on… however, as noted by the BBC and probably every other news station in the country last week; that cars, vans and motorbikes have all become stuck in up to 4feet of water because they trusted their Sat Nav more than their own eyes.
In the little village of Luckington in Wiltshire, people have been diverted around a blocked road down a small street which a ford flows across. Despite warning signs and the obvious mini-river itself, drivers have been ignoring the warnings and ploughing through the water regardless before looking shocked when their car dies. Luckily the helpful locals have been charging the drivers to tow them out, point them down another route, and even dry their clothes.
While the GPS providers accept some of the blame in the situation they do point out that the systems offer the drivers alternative routes, and do rely on the common sense of the users not to drive mindlessly through road blocks just because their system suggests it…so please people, watch the road and not just your GPS system or you’ll get us all in trouble!
