Google recently released a calendar for gmail users to use instead of good old Outlook. Now a company called CompanionLink Software have launched an application which allows PDA and Smartphone users to synchronise their appointments they have stored on Google calendar with their Palm Desktop and Microsoft Outlook on their handheld.
Wayland Burns told the Palm infocenter that while Google “provides users the ability to share and manage their schedules online, our solution extends the capabilities of Google Calendar by allowing seamless transfer of appointments, meetings, and personal information.”
Apparently the software will work with Palm OS, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile and Blackberry operating systems, and can synchronise with everything from Lotus Notes to Novell Groupwise. A free trial is available at companionlink.com and the full version is $29.95. Since I’d be happy to pay someone that amount just to re-enter my appointments into all my devices I think I’d be even happier to spend it on a program to do it for me!

I’m a little bit uncomfortable with solely “over the wire” support. Truth be told, “over the air” synchronization with Google Calendar would make this technology laughable.
