The smartphone market has increased yet another 66% in the first quarter of this year. Over 16.7m ’smart’ mobile devices were shipped over the last four months, 55% more than the same time in 2005, and while that includes “handhelds, wireless handhelds and smartphones“, Nokia hold a comfortable lead in the ’smart mobile device’ sector, showing that smartphones are still the devices of choice for consumers.
Out of the hundreds of facts and figures posted, one of the most interesting is that QTEK posted the highest growth out of the top five smart mobile device manufacturers. According to Electric News its 211% rise placed it above HP and Palm for the first time to make it the leading Windows mobile vendor in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) for this quarter. Overall Palm, HP, Acer and Dell shipments were down globally but with the Treo, and high end iPAQs still outselling the other PDAs in the market, I reckon that there is little cause for concern.
So in a crude summary; QTEK have had good year so far, other PDA makers haven’t.
