Oh, I feel a rant coming on….intempo have created this “Buddy” in-car navigation system - especially for women. So what’s so new and innovative that makes this the ideal tool for the busy woman? It’s pink. Sorry, I’ll quote Intempo: “designed to be beautiful”. They go on; “easy to use… never mind all that techie stuff…it really is that straightforward.”
So the selling points - it was built in the “’simple’ department” and the “‘gorgeous’ department ” made sure that it had “a lovely little pouch so it doesn’t get damaged in your handbag”. Sorry, what was the spec? What country’s maps come with it? Does it even have a GPS receiver? Do they really believe that women will spend hundreds of pounds on a GPS system that they know nothing about because it is sprinkled “with flowers and butterflies”?
I know I’ve criticised GPS systems for focusing more on the frivolous than the spec, and I know I’ve also been tempted by ones with gimmicks like iPOD control and inbuilt cameras, but this “Buddy” takes the biscuit. While the image downloads on the website work perfectly, the spec sheet and user guide links take you to error messages - proving that this wasn’t at the top of their list. I could go on a rant all day - but I’m not a big butch feminist - just an average girl who doesn’t like being talked down to. All the time spent designing the little patterns could have been spent thinking of something that would actually make a woman look twice at it - or is that just crazy talk?
I finish with a word from Intempo - “Imagine! You may never argue with your fella again!!!” I feel that the third exclaimation mark really encouraged me to buy it.
Any comments? Have I gone to far or does anyone agree with me?

Hello there
Please dont be too cross with us! Buddy was designed as a tongue in cheek retaliation against the boring black and silver GPS products on the market.
It was designed by all the girls at Intempo and we didn’t ask the boys opinion even once! At Intempo we believe in bringing technical products out of the jargon age and making them easy to use by just turning them on. We are not implying women cant understand the technical jargon ,just that we have better things to do with our time than read a 200 page instruction booklet.
Buddy is driven by the world class Destinator software and is as robust and reliable as other products in its specification class, it includes, 3.5inch touch screen, UK and Ireland maps, full UK postcode support, points of interest including hotels, bars and tourist attractions.
Our comments on the packaging and Press releases including “Imagine you may never argue with your fella again” are just a bit of piss take and not meant to offend, if anything they are intended to make our customers laugh a bit at just how silly some of our competitors packaging comments are!
Im sorry we caused you to rant, but perhaps now you know that we were having a laugh you will change your mind a bit.
Love from
Bernie
