Following on from their acquisition of Dopod, and the rumours that they are to market under their own brand, HTC have launched two 3G phones. Also, the company CEO, Peter Chou has confirmed that HTC will repace Qtek as its brand for Europe. After almost five years of selling under Qtek, HTC plan to strengthen their own position in Europe and these new phones seem to be the first step in that direction. The two 3G models are claiming to be the world’s first tri-band, 3G, Windows Mobile devices and have the catchy names of TyTN (a PDA) and MTeoR (a smartphone).
The TyTN has GSM, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and pretty much every connectivity option you can dream of. It has push email, internet browsing, the usual Outlook synchronisation and document viewing and editing. the TyTN also has a 2megapixel camera, a slide out QWERTY keyboard and a 2.8″ colour screen.
The MTeoR has much of the same software features but is pretty different in design, with a 2.2″ screen, and a 1.3megapixel camera.
Although I was hoping for more of a fanfare from the people who brought us the last great ranges from Qtek and i-mate, but the specs are original, even if the designs are oddly familiar. Whether people will accept the new brand remains to be seen. I’ll keep you posted if any more devices appear.
