Wayfinder have launched Navigator 6, the latest version of their mobile phone GPS software, and with it “Wayfinder Earth”, a free application, and a rival to Google Local for mobiles. You can browse maps across the world, or search by location name, all at various levels of zoom. As with standard GPS mapping software, you can store favourite locations, and scroll around the areas, enlarging as you go, presenting details right down to street names.
The system also features Wayfinder’s Points of Interest database – updated by people across the world to create the largest one available commercially. The POIs include contact numbers for companies like restaurants and hotels so you can even phone ahead and book before you arrive.
The new Wayfinder has lots of new features, building on the previous system and improving it. For those of you new to Wayfinder, the maps are all stored on a server, which you access via a password and username, and therefore only download the maps you need as you need them. The details are updated every two weeks making this probably the most up-to-date software with the widest geographical coverage available.
The software is available on its own, or with a Bluetooth GPS receiver and is compatible with most Symbian 60, 80, Windows Mobile and Java smartphones. see the product description, or visit Wayfinder’s website for a full list.
