The Bikini Body – with GPS?

Backpacker.com

A website has been launched (in the US of course) that lists routes and courses for running, cycling and hiking. A new feature on the established site offers in-depth information on trails all across the states, with descriptions, directions and GPS waypoints to help you find your way. Backpacker.com also offers basic guides to the world of GPS, making the site open to GPS addicts who want to get fit, and fitness addicts who want to make their routes more interesting.

They even have reviews of handhelds ranging from units designed for sport, to portable in-car models like the TomTom GO 300. I checked out the hikes suggested for a few states and with waypoints ranging from the best places to eat and sleep in the area, to much more interesting places like “Shadow canyon”, it looks like they’ve covered everything.

GPS and PDA‘s have long been part of the fitness world, but this well researched site seems to be the most conscious effort to use what could be “maps for lazy people” to turn us all into healthy hiking, running, cycling fit types! Here’s hoping someone manages to do the same for the UK…especially if it was in time for me going on holiday.
