As of yesterday, the lucky people in Norwich city centre will be enjoying the free wi-fi that the kind people of Norfolk City Council have provided. The project, worth over £1 million covers 30 sq km will offer free access to the public, although the access is limited to 256Kbps so it won’t compete with commercial providers. The wi-fi mesh comes from 200 devices, fitted mostly to lamposts, payphones and the like, across the city. Later this year, according to the register, the project will be extended to 20 rural areas around Norfolk.
Wi-Fi’s becoming a common place public commodity across the country, except where I live… come on Glasgow…catch up!
