The largest and most comprehensive survey of mobile usage has taken place, and the findings would make a grown man weep - if he tended to cry over similar things. Anyway, some crazy facts - 37% use their mobile while driving - you’re not big, you’re not clever and unless you have a handsfree kit it’s a stupid thing to do and makes you drive like a half-blind old lady so DON’T DO IT! Now I have that out of my system…
- 14% of people have two mobile phones that they use regularly
- 70% replaced their mobiles in the last 18months
- 18-24 year olds text more than they talk, and 1 in 4 of them send rude mesages with them (well I never…)
- Half of all mums and 1/3 of all dads have to ask their kids how to use mobile technology
So that’s all the usual ones, now for some odd ones that I have deduced from the report:
- It is more acceptable to talk on a mobile than text from one while at a funeral
- While 96% of people agree that it is unsafe to use a phone while driving, or without a handsfree kit, 12% of people use their phone held to their ear whilst driving - if you are one of them, please don’t do it. If you don’t hurt yourself you could end up hurting someone else.
- 6% of people aged 60+ have received a text asking them out on a date - go team!
- over 50% of people believe that sending flirty texts to anyone other than your partner is cheating
- 56% of parents think it is reasonable to use GPS to track their child without informing them
So there you go, not only are we addicted to our mobiles, PDAs and GPS systems, we apparently are not very nice people by the way we use them. What do you think?
