A week after its release, I’ve got a hold of the products, their full specs and pricing so I can now pass the information about TomTom Navigator 6 onto all of you lovely people. First of all it’s available in five different formats. We have 1) the full UK package with software on an SD card with a Bluetooth GPS receiver 2) the same with European maps on SD 3) the same with European maps on DVD 4) The full UK software on its own 5) the full European software on its own. You can also buy the TomTom Bluetooth receiver separately.
So prices and specs:
The full UK package. For under £130, this package contains a mini-sd card (with an adaptor to make it full size SD) and a bluetooth GPS receiver. The European system is exactly the same whether on SD at £170 or DVD at £85. Why the price difference? Well to get it onto your PDA you’ll need a memory card, unless you have about 1GB spare of internal memory, and DVDs are cheaper than SD cards, hence the big price difference. The software is also available separately for both UK and Europe (£68 and £109 respectively). This is the ideal option if you already have a receiver, or if you are upgrading from Navigator or Mobile 5.
I think TomTom have made created so many options for this product as it now covers the whole Naviagator for PDA and Smartphones ranges. If you can think of an option they’ve missed, post and let me know, or if you’ve already taken nav 6 out for a test drive let me know how it went.

With the convergence of Mobile and Navigator into a single version and assuming the old practice of allowing two devices to be activated on a single key, I wander if we will be able to run both a PDA and SmartPhone off one copy (leagally)?
It will be possible to use it on both devices. I’ve contacted TomTom to see whether this will be legal/encouraged/supported etc. and will let you know as soon as they get back to me.
I am looking to purchase 1 of the available choices. However, living in Northern Ireland (some say we are part of the UK, some say part of Ireland etc etc arguement), I already have a GPS device which connects via bluetooth to my O2 XDA exec so I don’t need a GPS device.
If I want coverage for UK and the wholeof the island of ireland, do I need the Uk package or the European Package?????

I lived and worked in N.I for a long time and to be honest, TomTom doesn’t have great coverage over there. For the centre of Belfast etc. it’s great, but apart from that it’s main roads only. The UK version does cover you for the North, but if you want really concise coverage, I’d be bold and suggest you look at Destinator - my personal favourite navigation software. Version 6 is out now which will work on your XDA. http://www.totalpda.co.uk/Destinator-6-Software—European-maps.aspx You can also get all of Europe for around £100. If you would still prefer the TomTom interface then you should be fine with the software only UK option.

I’m planning to purchase a Tomtom Navigator 6 with the west European maps to use in conjunction with an Orange SPV M600. Can I buy on the maps on DVD and copy these to an SD card without difficulty? I am fairly new to this game and would hate to buy the wrong product.
Jonjon, the DVD will launch an installer when you run it on your computer. It will extract the maps to wherever you choose. Just make sure your SD card has enough capacity, I suppose!
Can I use TomTom Navigator 6 on my HP iPAQ H2210 and on my Vodafone 1605 VPA compact 111 (it is a badged HTC TyTN)
TomTom 6 will work on your HP 2210 and HTC TyTN. Have fun!
Can I use TomTom 6 on my Sony Ericsson P990? I’ve seen conflicting answers to this one elsewhere.
It is not listed on the TomTom site as compatible, but I did see that other sites state it MIGHT work. I’d go with what the TomTom site says to be safe.
