TomTom have teamed up with Johnson Controls to launch a system to integrate your TomTom GO completely into your car. The pair have developed BMDG (Bluetooth Mobile Device Gateway), which will allow for electronic devices to communicate with a car’s computer part…things (ok, so I’m no mechanic). This means that everything from your TomTom instructions and MP3s being played through your car speakers to it alerting you when you are low on fuel and directing you to the nearest petrol station.
It will also allow drivers to select a restaurant/hotel etc from TomTom’s POI database and the device will like with your mobile phone to dial the restaurant’s number automatically so you can make your reservation before you get there. All of this is pretty much an extension of the things your TomTom can already do - but it will allow for “navigation systems to be truly integrated into vehicle electronic systems” according to Johnson Controls.
So what do you think? AI in your car, or cool new gadgetry?
