Ateksoft WebCamera Plus adds unneeded functionality to your PDA/smartphone

Web Camera Plus

I spotted a press release for a new version of WebCamera Plus on Google News. What it purports to do is turn your PDA or smartphone into a webcam, which connects to your desktop PC either via ActiveSync, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

Maybe I’m completely missing the point here, but I don’t see any real market or practical use for this. If the software is meant to add webcam functionality to public-use PCs, it shouldn’t need to be also installed on the desktop (but it does, and the versions on PC and handheld need to be the same as well). If I wanted a webcam to chat over Skype or iChat or MSN, I’d buy a webcam.

IMHO, this piece of software kind of seems like a waste of time. And they’re charging USD19.90 for it, too.
