The imminent release of TomTom’s new flagship device, the Go 720, is already beginning to create a stir in the GPS community. PCPro and VNUNet have both awarded it with the highest possible rating, and a number of other sites are hailing the device as the best GPS on the market. And quite rightly so – the Go 720 isn’t just an update to previous models, it boasts a whole host of innovative new features which set it apart from the crowd.
In addition to improvements in aesthetics, which include a larger 4.3 inch touch screen, and smaller, more lightweight design, the Go 720 really packs a punch, featuring a number of improvements to earlier TomTom models.
With integrated Bluetooth, users can now pair their TomTom with their Mobile phone to enable TomTom ‘Plus’ services, such as weather and traffic. Hands-free functionality and text to speech (allowing text messages to be read aloud), as well as audio routing through Bluetooth enabled car stereos, means that drivers can have a safer, more convenient driving experience.
Perhaps the most significant feature is the inclusion of TomTom’s new Map Share software, which enables users to interact with mapping data in a unique and exciting way. Drivers can now modify their own maps by adding new roads, streets, alternative routes, traffic directions – you can even update motorway entrances/exits, Points of Interest and speed camera locations.
It will also be possible to share map modifications with the 10 million strong TomTom community using the included TomTom HOME desktop software, and as the number of Map Share users grows, Map Share looks set to redefine the way that users interact with their GPS.
Map Share will be shipping with TomTom’s latest releases, including the new TomTom Go 520 and 720 and should be available very soon!
