Satellite navigation crime has increased at an alarming rate over the past years. Unfortunately your prized GPS device acts as a beacon to thieves, who see an unattended gadget such as this as a free lunch. Most people either remove their GPS from their vehicle completely, or conceal it in the glove box to prevent potential break-ins.
However, worryingly, thieves continue to hone their skills and now seem to be targeting cars with tell-tale indicators of GPS ownership. Suction marks, left by sat navs on car windscreens, have been linked to a number of break-ins by opportunist thieves who hope to find expensive systems in the glove box, or concealed out of view. At worst you could find that your sat nav has been stolen; at best you’ll end up paying for the repair of a broken window.
In a bid to thwart such opportunistic break-ins, police in Gloucestershire have handed out 2,500 dusters to motorists, bearing the phrase, “Don’t be a sucker to thieves”. It is hoped that this campaign will wipe out sat-nav crime in the region, and give thieves the brush off.
