TomTom have released their new high end satellite navigation system, the TomTom GO 920T. The device is the most advanced to date, featuring the most extensive maps of Western Europe and North America, as well as a number of new innovative technologies, such as enhanced positioning technology, TomTom Map Share™ and plug & play traffic information.
TomTom’s new Enhanced Positioning Technology uses movement and gravity sensors to calculate drivers’ positions when GPS signals are unavailable. This ensures that the device will continue to navigate to your destination, regardless of line-of-site connections to satellites. The result is that the navigation experience is seamless, even when driving near tall buildings, trees, tunnels and bridges, for example.
A significant advancement in mapping technology, TomTom’s new Map Share software enables users to add to, update and personalize your maps instantly. Subsequently, drivers can now specify the most efficient and up to date mapping themselves, where the maps supplied on the device are not up to scratch.
Users can also share their map modifications with the 10 million strong TomTom community using the included TomTom HOME desktop software. Billed as the future of mapping, the technology is certain to set the standard, as well as ensure that the best maps are always available.
As well as new graphics and improvements to the user interface, the GO 920T uses speech recognition allowing users to state their destination, without the need for typing. Furthermore, with the ability to announce street names, and text-to-speech functionality (your device can read aloud any sms or traffic messages you may have) you can fully concentrate on your driving.
The TomTom GO 920T also includes new traffic information options - live traffic allows you can choose the best route to take according to current traffic conditions. The GO 920T can update traffic information automatically or on demand, and will suggest a number of alternative routes should the need arise, giving a clear overview of the entire traffic situation.
The TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver, along with a one year traffic subscription, is included in the box. Through this, you can receive the standard “TMC” traffic updates, broadcast at regular intervals. Alternatively, you can connect to TomTom’s Traffic subscription service via your Bluetooth® mobile phone.
With such an amazing array of new features, TomTom’s new flagship device is undoubtedly the most advanced and feature packed on the market today. A serious piece of kit, it will undoubtedly set the standard for future generations of GPS devices.
