If you are finding yourself confused between the various models of the TomTom ONE series, you are not alone. With the newest addition to the range – the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition – you may be wondering why on earth TomTom went to the trouble.
On the surface, both the 3rd Edition and the 2nd Edition appear very similar. With the exception of a silver fascia on the latest offering, both models appear almost identical. The key difference is that TomTom have actually stripped out some features from the 3rd Edition.
In addition to the lack of an SD card slot, the 3rd Edition now ships without Bluetooth, which means no hands-free calling. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as it has allowed TomTom to drastically reduce the price of the 3rd Edition, making it a more affordable option for the consumer.
A further difference is that the 3rd Edition ships with the Navcore Lite software package, a more basic version of the same software found in previous models. With this latest version, users will no longer have access features such as itinerary planning, custom car icons, or voice recording.
The 3rd edition is also one of the first models to feature the new MapShare software, a Godsend to those being let up the wrong track – literally. By now you will no doubt be aware that MapShare is the latest innovation by TomTom, allowing users the capability to alter their own mapping data and share these alterations with other members of the TomTom community over the internet, via the TomTom Home software application. MapShare promises to revolutionise the way we access map updates and eliminate instances where mapping data may be lacking (isolated rural routes, for example).
All in all, the TomTom One 3rd Edition offers users an optimised experience at a far more affordable price compared to previous models. The reduction in features is certainly outweighed by the reduction in price and the added functionality of MapShare.
