Well, it’s finally here! The Apple iPhone was today released amidst massive marketing hype. Stores have been bracing themselves for the huge glut of eager Apple fans awaiting the latest must-have device.
Fans began queuing outside Apple’s flagship store in London on Thursday morning, sporting sleeping bags, thermos flasks, food, and other essentials to see them through to the much anticipated opening on London’s Regent street this morning. Apple staff have been supplying those queuing with warm drinks, umbrellas, and sleeping bags to make their pilgrimage that little bit easier.
The much coveted device goes on sale at 6pm tonight at around 1300 Apple stores throughout the UK, and Apple predict Saturday to be their busiest day yet. With the device selling approximately 125 units per minute at its US debut, and with Christmas fast approaching, Apple staff are going to have their work cut out.
The iPhone costs £269 and is be available via mobile provider O2, with 18 month contracts starting from £35 per month. O2, for the first time are offering tariffs with unlimited data transfer limits to avoid exorbitant internet access costs, though the monthly tariff and price of the iPhone is likely to be outside the reach of many gadget fans.
Many technophiles are now starting to realise that there are a number of cheaper (and better) options available, such as the HTC TyTN II, or HTC Touch amongst others, which offer a greater range of features than the iPhone. Most people however, are willing to pay through the nose for the most anticipated gadget this year.
