Sony Ericsson to Release the HGE-100 GPS Enabler

Posted by Derek  Published in Accessories, News, Sony

Sony Ericsson HGE 100 GPS Enabler

Perhaps one of the most interesting developments of the year, the Sony Ericsson HGE-100 GPS enabler looks like a potential hit for mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson. This tiny device incorporates a stereo portable handsfree unit with a GPS receiver, allowing users to control calls and music, or to switch to GPS mode when required.

In addition to voice or text guided GPS functionality, the HGE-100 also features a ‘Tracker’ GPS sports application. This handy utility allows users to monitor speed, distance, route, and calorie burn – it even records and analyses the data so you can monitor your progress. Along with the multimedia mp3 playback capabilities of Sony’s latest phones, the ‘Tracker’ package should prove popular with the sports enthusiast.

Due to be released from Q3 2007, the HGE-100 will be compatible with all Java enabled phones from the K800 onwards and should prove to be an attractive option for those looking for a multifunctional GPS solution.

GPS for your PSP - launch date announced

Posted by Jill  Published in GPS, News, Sony, TomTom

Play Station Portable with GPS

Sony have issued a press release, reassuring people that the long awaited GPS receiver for your PSP is one day going to be released. I last blogged on this back in March, so the news of a launch date this December is welcome. It should retail for around £30, if my Yen to Pound exchange is correct. It’s a pretty high spec (once again, if my Google Translate is reliable…) with a 20 channel receiver and around a 1sec Fix renewal. It weighs only 16g and measures a tiny 45 x 41mm.

Sony introduces GPS for cameras

Posted by Jill  Published in GPS, Sony

Sony GPS for cameras

Sony’s branch into GPS was recent, but already they’re launching receivers for the PSP, and now for their digital cameras. The company have just announced that they have created a small device that will add location data to your photos. The unit, called GPS-CS1 for their cyber-shot cameras, is only 9cm long, and you’re meant to attach it to your belt and wear it all day as you take photos. Every 15 seconds it records your location and the time, so it can build a record of exactly where the user has been and later match up that data with the time-stamp on the photos using Sony’s GPS Image Tracker software.

Sony hits the 4GB mark

Posted by Jill  Published in Accessories, Sony

Sony 4GB Memory Stick Pro Duo

Impressed as I was when SD cards stepped up to the 2GB line, I’m embarrassingly excited by the fact that Sony have cracked the 4GB mark with their latest Memory Stick Pro Duo. While less products use this form of memory, adaptors are available for only a few quid, and for such a massive amount of storage - it’s probably worth it. It holds 3000 photos at 5megapixel resolution! How frightening is that? Anyway, as usual, if you have any questions or comments, let me know…

Sony PSP becomes a GPS system

Posted by Jill  Published in GPS, News, Sony

Play Station Portable

Maybe not one of my typical pieces of news, but still relevant (depending on how I word it!). So the PSP has taken the world by storm. Considering that a Gameboy, the size of a small breeze block was once the height of portable entertainment with its non-colour cartridge games, it’s hard to believe that Sony’s tiny handheld device is now capable of more than your average laptop. While most blogs across the nation are counting down to the PS3 launch, I’m more interested in the fact that the PSP will soon have a digital camera and GPS receiver available as multimedia accessories.

Just thought I’d reassure you…and my boss…that my little blog isn’t all that I do in a day. I’ve also been building up a Press Section for TotalPDA. I put all of the press releases and news articles from the big names in PDAs, GPS systems and Mobiles up there and update it a few times a day. So if you don’t find the information you’re looking for in Jill’s Corner, try the Newsroom.

Also, if you’re a budding reviewer and would like to see your work on the web, there is contact details and details of how you can get your work published for the world to see. If you’ve any questions, post here and ask or contact me through one of the emails on the site.

Sony’s Shiny New GPS system

Posted by Jill  Published in GPS, News, Sony

I haven’t got that much information on this soon to be released product from Sony, as few people beyond Akihabara seem to have heard on it…but I can tell you that it is pretty! They’re calling it the Nav-U portable navigation system. It has a 12-channel GPS receiver, a built in antenna so you can use the system right out of the box, and a chunky 1GB of internal memory. While it will only be available in the US at first the Nav-U will eventually be released across the Atlantic too.
